Rate your Retell!

I know I said I would have an app for you when I blogged again. I have the app-- not the tutorial. :( I had a serious computer issue GRR! But I wanted to share this with you anyway without the tutorial. It's very easy to figure out! It's called Nearpod. It is a free app on iTunes that lets you put your PowerPoint presentations into the hands of each one of your kiddos. You choose when the slide changes from your computer or device, so the kids are following along with you, but they have it right in front of them. It's so valuable for kids to have the content right in front of them when we teach. I have noticed a huge change in the way I present information. I love this app!
I have even used it as a review tool for tests. I put the questions on a PowerPoint and convert it into a Nearpod Presentation. Kids can DRAW on it. Yeah! It's awesome!

And onto Reader's Workshop. We have been working on writing summaries of books we have read. I love reading summaries that say "she had red hair. she ate breakfast. they went to bed." NOT!
We have written summaries out the wazoo and kids are still doing this.

Here is my solution:

A 4 Star rating system for how well you can retell a story. I know some of us do the 3 Star drawing and coloring rating system, so this is pretty much like that.

And guess what! It's yours for free! Just click any of the images above to download :)

I have been working on my Fall Math Centers with my kiddos. I have to say that they are loving some missing number/skip counting! We were on struggle mode for a minute, but we got it now! If you haven't had a chance to check them out, click the the image below to see!

BATS! (with a freebie)

I love this time of year! We get to do all my favorite subjects! I absolutely love teaching Bats. My kids are crazy about them! We started our KWL on Monday and my kids actually thought that Vampire Bats were really bats that bit people and turned them into Vampires... Who am I kidding? I still believe this ;) Sorry the picture is a bit "shiny." The lighting in my room is awful.

Then we worked on our Bat vocabulary flip-books. I made most of my sweeties right out the vocab words, and a few had theirs already printed.
Not all my kiddos added illustrations to theirs, but if they finished before we went onto the next word, I let them :)

You can grab a copy of this Freebie Flip-Book in my TPT store now by clicking the flip-book above.

This is a great addition to my Cats, Owls, and Bats Non-Fiction Supplemental Pack that we are using this week and next week. Right now, you can get this pack on discount for $2.50!
That's all for now folks!

The Cutest Owls and a Facebook Freebie!

So, I told you that we were working on something with glitter! We made spider webs after reading Diary of a Spider. They turned out so awesome. It was worth every speck of glitter that is still floating around ;)

We also have been using my Owls, Bats, and Cats unit and made these adorable scrapbook paper owls to go along with it. They aren't part of my unit, but I loved letting the kids choose their own paper and design it themselves. Normally, I am too much of a control freak to let kids do something without a pattern or a piece that I pre-cut, but these are too adorable.

(This one looks a bit more like a bat... But it's still precious)

We also started weather in Science and Reading this week. My kids are loving every second of it! We started out with some basic research and making some "storm webs" after reading Super Storms.

We took our webs and made them into Poplets with the Poplet Lite App on our iPads. It was a bit time consuming getting the kids all on the same page with the new app but they caught on pretty quickly. You can click the image below to check out the app (it's FREE!)

Then we used a Google -free to use and share- search to find images to add to our Poplets. I think this was their favorite part.

I wanted to share something with you :) If you like my Facebook page, you can go to my Freebies for Fans and download my Perfect Fall Paper Pack. It's kinda perfect for Winter, too! You can find it in my TPT store for sale, but I like to give stuff away! It has frames and background papers that you can use commercially (just refer to the Terms of Use on how to credit). It's a pretty big file, so it may take a second to pop up.

Five for Friday

Hey all! I'm linking up with Kacey at DoodleBugs Teaching for her Five for Friday! You can link up to by clicking the link below!

BOOKS GALORE!  I got a package this week of my new Scholastic books! I got all these books for $11 because I used my 25 coupons I have been hoarding since Back to School ordering. I love Scholastic!

We have been studying pumpkins this week and after finishing up our QR code hunt, we made and labeled some Jack-O-Lanterns! Aren't they so adorable?! You can grab my labels to make your own pumpkins HERE.

We went to the pumpkin farm this week! I was so excited to take Madden. He has only been when he was a little tiny seed in my belly. He was crazy about the pumpkins and the animals. The goats were just chatting him up crazy. He said... "Mama! They mad at me!" And I said, like a dummy, "Why are they mad at you?" "They maaaad at me, Mama" He is just too cute. Then there is my husband... Who is cute, too :)

My most wonderful husband agreed to pay my Photoshop subscription! I was beyond excited and went tutorial crazy trying to figure everything out. It had been quite some time since I used it. You can grab my new background papers now in my store!!

Polka Dot Shades of Blue Backgrounds {Commercial or Personal Use}

Glitter Chevron Background Set {Personal or Commercial Use}

Totally unrelated to teaching... But, it does have to do with school ;) We are USC fans in my house. We had this beautiful wreath made by a friend. She did such a great job for us! I had to show it off! You can check out her other work on Instagram @_fruitofherhands_

Have a great weekend!!
