Are you getting ready for winter yet?

If it is going to be this cold, we should at least have some snow! While I wait for snowflakes to make their way to South Carolina, I am working on getting my Winter goodies prepared! One of my favorite centers from my new Winter Math Unit is Penguin's Missing Numbers. I will laminate the pieces so the kiddos can use dry erase markers to fill in what's missing. It's great practice and review of skip counting for them
You can get the whole pack by clicking the image above! Be on the lookout for the companion ELA centers!

I know I am way ahead of the seasons, but I am getting so excited!! If you are working on now and then or Colonial times with your kiddos this week or next week, I had posted a little compare and contrast activity last week. I wanted to post the link again, in case you missed it! Click the Venn Diagram below to grab it!

Two Digit Addition

Phew, I am ready for bed! We went to Gaitlinburg, TN this weekend for a family getaway. It was beautiful. And cold. Very cold! Check out this view from my grandparent's home...

You can't get much better than that. It was so wonderful not to do ANY work for two days.

I'm back at it now, working on finalizing my plans for this week and my three days next week. Not too shabby :) We are going to be working out our issues with double digit addition with regrouping. I found this poster on Pinterest that I am recreating for my kiddos:

Fall into a Good Book

We have been working hard on opinion writing! I absolutely love these pieces my kiddos did on their favorite books!

I'm so proud of my bulletin board! The kids made it perfect. Or maybe it was my big, fat owl ;)

Are you counting down the days until Thanksgiving?! I am!! I love teaching about Colonial times and am so excited about one of the projects my kiddos are going to work on (pictures to come when they are done). In the meantime, I have a sweet comparing life then and now for you to download! Hopefully it will give our kiddos some insight into the wonderful things we have nowadays! You can click either image below to download your copy!

Have a great Friday!! :)

Good ol' matter!

My favorite parts of teaching matter: clay pinch pots and slime. We finished our pinch pots today and they are SO cute!

Then we got out our matter journals out and wrote about how we made a physical change and what we did to our clay to change it into a pot. I didn't get much of the writing ( the kids were taking up most of the time putting the finishing touches on their pots )

She did a LOT to her pot ;)

Drawing Conclusions and Opinion Mentor Texts!

We are reading Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type this week. I love this series of  books. We are using it Click, Clack, Moo to teach Drawing Conclusions. I love teaching about drawing conclusions! I have these cards that I read to the kiddos and then they tell me what conclusion they came to.

My favorite one is about mom with her wallet. My kids know me so well that as soon as I said wallet, their little hands shot up and they just knew mom was GOING SHOPPING! :)

You can grab a copy of my Drawing Conclusions Cards by clicking either of the images above.

We are also working on writing our opinion pieces. I am excited to get them published and share them! We are reading some of my favorite persuasive/opinion mentor texts:

Anyway, I have a papers to grade :( and a book study to work on! And guess what... it's almost Friday!
