Virtual Manipulatives

I realize that many teachers don't yet have iPads for their classrooms. I found this great virtual manipulatives site that you can use on your Interwrite, Star or SMART board. I love this for my classroom because it's hard to demonstrate everything with my teacher iPad from the back of the room (which is where my computer is). I'd rather be able to stand at the front. The website is through McGraw-Hill and you can find the link here. It's long and tricky, but if you want that version:

You can pick your grade.
Then select a background (they even have game boards).

I like the bedroom... My word problems always talk about a messy bedrooom and how I had teddy bears ALL over the floor. Then the kids get to use teddy counters to show the problem. I love their little bears :)

Then pick your manipulatives! I have been using the Base Ten Blocks most right now.

Clearing your board can be tricky sometimes... You have to drag stuff into the recycle bin in the corner. I usually just go up to the address bar and highlight the address and click enter or go. It starts the page over much faster. Got to do what you got to do, right!

I hope this makes your life a little easier!!

If you haven't already... Head over to my Facebook page. I am posting my freebies there under my Fan Freebies tab! I also have some new freebies at my TPT store. If you haven't been there in a while, click on the Most Recent link at my store and you will see all kinds of goodies!

Guided Reading and a FREEBIE!

I love guided reading groups. You get a chance to work closer with the kids and learn more about them and their interests and background. It's so rewarding to watch them grow as readers through the year!
I finally got all my groups organized and my kids reading independently (mostly) during Workshop. Now, I get to get down to the nitty gritty! My struggling readers are working on *chunking words* and retelling. They were so excited to work in their comprehension books today!

We did our picture walk and made a prediction about the story. This little fella is too smart for his own good ;) And he even added a speech bubble for his fire engine. So cute!

You can grab my comprehension books here. I just print the pages I need depending on the group I am working with and BAM, you are ready to rock.

Onto the FREEBIE!

We are working on place value for math and let me tell you... "The struggle is real!" We are going to practice, practice, practice until my kids are seeing hundreds, tens and ones in their cafeteria peas. I am SO EXCITED to pull out my Halloween math centers for my kids! One of my activities is working on tens and ones.

You can get it for free in my Math Center Freebie

You also get a little word problem action in the freebie, too! I hope you can use one or the other (OR BOTH) for your kiddos this October.

Don't forget to enter the giveaways at Tiny Teaching Shack and Teacher Treasure Hunter to win some of my new units--- PLUS a ton of other great products!

Have a wonderful-- and restful Monday!

Place Value Mini-Unit!

Yay! I am ready to share my new mini-unit with you! Head over to my TPT store and pick up my new Place Value Mini-Unit! It has three different activities/centers for your kiddos to practice place value! This was a bit tough for me, because place value is not my favorite subject in math to teach. But, my kiddos are helping me get excited about it!

Of course, each activity/center has its own recording sheet for you to check understanding. And... You can't beat that $2.25 price!

I get my clincal student on Wednesday! I can't wait to meet her, and I know my students are going to love her! I think they get tired of hearing me talk sometimes ;)
